Dynalectric Company - Georgia Honored With First Place Specialty Contractor Award For Atlanta Marriott Marquis Renovation
ATLANTA, GA – June 25, 2009 – Dynalectric Company-Georgia has received the first place Specialty Contractor Award from the Georgia Branch of the Associated General Contractors (AGC) for its renovation work at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis hotel in downtown Atlanta. One of Marriott's flagship properties and considered an architectural masterpiece, with 1,663 guest rooms and 160,000 square feet of meeting space, the Marriott Marquis is the largest convention hotel in the city of Atlanta and the third largest hotel in the entire Marriott system.
Dynalectric-Georgia, a premier electrical contractor serving the southeastern United States, is a subsidiary of EMCOR Group, Inc. (NYSE:EME), a Fortune 500® leader in mechanical and electrical construction, energy infrastructure, and facilities services for a diverse range of businesses.
The Specialty Contractor Award is part of the AGC's Build Georgia Awards program, which seeks to honor excellent construction projects throughout the state. The key judging criteria for the program includes exceptional project safety performance, meeting the challenge of a difficult job, innovation in construction techniques and materials, application of sustainable building practices and/or green construction methods, excellence in project management and scheduling, and excellence in client service.
"We are thrilled to have received this recognition, which is a testament to a great client who allowed us to play a significant role in restoring one of Atlanta's iconic buildings to its original grandeur,' commented Robert Wilson, President of Dynalectic-Georgia. Dynalectric's expertise in executing highly complex and demanding renovation projects to exacting standards and demanding specifications has long been our hallmark and in this instance was, again, exactly what our client required."
Dynalectric's work involved installation of new electrical and lighting systems, including advanced life safety, fire alarm, voice/date and MATV (master antenna television) systems. The work was performed throughout 318,000 square feet of diverse public spaces, such as the hotel's signature 50-story atrium (the largest in the world), as well as three floors containing restaurants, ballrooms, meeting rooms, elevator lobbies, kitchens and back-of-house areas.
There were a number of challenges involved as part of project for Dynalectric, including the project's 9,000 light fixtures and 7,000 feet of linear fixtures, among which were a variety of unique Italian and other electrical devices, which required custom-design strategies and innovative working procedures. At each stage of the work, Dynalectric re-designed and re-circuited the entire dimming package. Additionally, just two weeks prior to the facility's grand opening, the Dynalectric restored nine 25-year-old chandeliers, each consisting of approximately 1,500 crystals. The hotel remained open throughout the renovation, requiring Dynalectric to minimize disruptions to ongoing operations and carefully coordinate work with the other contractors involved with the project.
